Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone! As the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day weekend ushers in the unrestrained partying spirit that we are calling ‘Vaccination Summer.’ So get those jabs in your arm and join in on what is going to be the wildest season of our young adult lives! But before we totally let loose, let’s spend some time over the next 72 hours relaxing in front of our TVs and/or computer screens, watching the top new movies and shows out starting today. Whether you’re sifting through options on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or all of the above, hitting up the freshest titles is always the best way to start your weekend binge-fest. New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: Lucifer Season 5 Part 2, Panic, Plan B and Cruella
Much like how this weekend is finally giving us what we’ve been waiting for (the start to summer, if you didn’t guess), our favorite streaming platforms are also giving us the hot new movies and shows we’ve been desperately waiting to see. On Netflix, you can catch the final episodes of the original series Lucifer, as well as Season 3 of The Kominsky Method. Amazon Prime Video and Hulu are also serving up highly-anticipated original content in the forms of the one-hour drama series Panic and the hilarious film Plan B, respectively. But that’s not all: Disney+ is serving up all the looks and chaotic evil we never knew we needed in Cruella, the edgy live-action flick that tells the story behind the famed fur coat-wearing villainess in 101 Dalmations. New on Netflix May 28: Lucifer Season 5 Part 2
Our favorite little devil is back Lucifer Season 5 Part 2… and we are finally going to meet our maker! That’s right, the Fox and Netlfix hit series about the Devil (Tom Ellis) taking an extended vacation in the City of Angels and solving crime for the LAPD is coming to a close this weekend; and in this last installment, God (wait, is that the Allstate guy?) finally graces his sons with his presence and announces his retirement. Will Lucifer ascend to the throne? And who will he have to get through in order to redeem himself— once and for all? New on Netflix this weekend is the final showdown between good and evil, and perhaps as one of the top shows new on Netflix this month, Lucifer will give us the ending we have all been hoping for.
New on Amazon Prime Video May 28: Panic
New on Prime Video this weekend is Panic, the one-hour drama series that will make all graduating high school seniors reevaluate Senior Night. Created by Lauren Oliver and based on her hit novel of the same name, this chilling drama is set in a small Texas town where every summer the graduating seniors compete in a series of challenges in which the winner gets what the kids believe is the one chance to escape their crappy circumstances. But this year, the rules have changed, the pot of money is bigger than ever before and the challenges are even more dangerous. This year, the players will have to face their deepest, darkest fears and decide how much they are willing to risk in order to win. We all thought as teens entering the real world that every decision would determine our future path; but in Panic, that urgency and desperation is put to the ultimate test.
New on Hulu May 28: Plan B
Plan B is the hysterical Hulu-original film that is new on Hulu this weekend. It follows a straight-laced student who, after a majorly-regrettable first sexual encounter, enlists the help of her slacker best friend to hunt down a Plan B pill before her 24-hour window is up. The task doesn’t sound that difficult to complete until you realize that our pair of besties live in America’s heartland! Starring Victoria Moroles, Kuhoo Verma, Michael Provost, and Myha’la Herrold, Plan B is a fantastic adventure comedy that also serves as a subtle jab at the lack of basic female sexual care in many parts of the United States.
New on Disney+ May 28: Cruella
Sing it with us: Cruella de Vil, Cruella de vil… New on Disney+ this weekend is the highly-anticipated release of Cruella: the film that offers the villainous origin story we never knew we desperately needed. Emma Stone (La La Land, Easy A) stars as Estella: a young woman with anger issues who has dreams of becoming a fashion designer in 1970s London. This does not sound like the soulless dog-killer we know Cruella to be! But when Estella’s unique designs catch the eye of fashion legend Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson), the story takes a turn and the resulting relationship and revelations set Estella down the path towards embracing her dark side and ultimately becoming the iconic villainess we know her to be: Cruella de Vil. Between the fantastic performance Stone delivers as the soon-to-be-baddie and the punk-rock vibe director Craig Gillespie and writers Dana Fox and Tony McNamara add to the film, Cruella is a must-watch film this weekend that will be worth the premier access additional price!
