ORANGE, Ohio -- Silverspot Cinema will become just the second movie theater chain to reopen in Northeast Ohio when its Pinecrest theater welcomes moviegoers back Friday.
The theater has implemented new health and safety measures that “meet or exceed all CDC, state and local health guidelines,” a company spokesperson said in a email. Parties will be separated by at least two seats on all sides for a social distance of at least seven feet between groups.
For its reopening, the theater, known for its in-auditorium dining and luxury recliners, will show “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Deadpool” and “The Jungle Book.” Tickets are $5.
In addition, Silverspot will make its auditoriums available for private rental. For $99, guests can host their own viewing party in one of its 10 theaters. The deal, however, doesn’t come with a movie. Renters will have to stream content from their own personal device. The fee does include $99 worth of food and beverages, making the theater rental essentially free.
“We’re very excited to offer private events,” Silverspot managing partner Gonzalo Ulivi said in a release. “The large size of our auditoriums make these gatherings safer than meeting at home. And we have full-service food and bar at low prices. We think these will be very popular.”
The food and beverage offerings include a special chef-driven menu and a “Beat-the-Clock Happy Hour” on weekdays, when drink prices change every hour. For example, drinks cost $4 at 4 p.m., then $5 at 5 p.m., etc.,
Silverspot will join Atlas Cinemas, which reopened in June, and the Cinemark Tinseltown in North Canton, also set to open Friday, as the only movie houses in operation in Northeast Ohio. Cinemark is reopening its theaters in phases, while AMC and Regal expect to be back in business by mid-to-late August in time for the release of “Tenet” on September 3.
